Kampf Banned from LIGBT Day After Winning Event

Sunday started off as a very good day for Scott Kampf. Monday was a different story altogether and one that may end up haunting the LIGBT.

Yesterday, the Long Island Generations Bowling Tour held their 4-game Mini-Marathon at AMF Wantagh Lanes. Bowling in the scratch section of the tournament, Kampf, using the Radical Counter Attack Solid and the Hammer Web Tour Hybrid, pumped out games of 256, 235, 237 and 265 for a 993 scratch, good enough to take home the scratch title and the $600 first place prize. That's when things got interesting.

In what seems to be a regular occurrence in the LIGBT events, after the event was over, there were a few scoring miscues that were reported.  The director of the LIGBT, Steve Sanders, made the corrections and all was well.  Kampf proceeded to head over to the brackets and pots table, which are run by Bob Olsen.  Olsen made the corrections to the scores and when all was said and done, Kampf had won 25 brackets ($25 per win) and came in second in two ($10 for second), good enough for $645 in winnings.  Sanders signed off on this amount, verified and initialed that the brackets and pots were correct, Olsen paid out Kampf the $645 and everything seemed copacetic.

    Unfortunately it was not.

This morning, Kampf received a call from Mr. Olsen explaining that there was yet another scoring miscue in the brackets, on the complete part of the bracket program mind you, and that Kampf had only won 18 brackets instead of the 25 he originally won.  Olsen explained that Kampf was responsible for paying back $200 of the original $645 he received, which is even more baffling considering with this correction, Kampf still would've won $470, only a $175 difference.  Kampf kindly explained that Sanders had signed off and verified the scores and that asking for a $200 refund was simply not something he was willing to entertain as everything had been finalized.  Olsen asked Kampf to call Sanders to discuss the next actions.

Kampf reached out to Sanders via text (as can be seen to the right) and asked to discuss how to handle the situation.  Sanders, in a most unprofessional manner, responded by saying that Kampf could "keep the $200" and that he is "no longer welcomed to bowl in future LIGBT events."  Kampf explained that the scores were both verified, finalized and initialed and that the miscues were at the complete fault of the bracket program being used in the event.  Sanders once again reacted childishly, exclaiming, "and now you are no longer our problem.  See we are both happy."

Trying to rectify the situation once more, Kampf offered to split the $200 but was ignored.

Apparently Mr. Sanders got word that Kampf was going public with this information and asked one of the LIGBT employees to reach out to Kampf (as can be seen to the left of this).  The employee texted Kampf discouraging him to release this information and to "consider the bridges [he is] about to burn," while providing confirmation that he could use the screenshot of the conversation. And, apparently ignoring the fact that Mr. Sanders' own behavior was extremely juvenile, went as far as to say that going public with this information was "unnecessary and ... childish."

Due to this scoring issue that Kampf had nothing to do with and should have been handled by the LIGBT, Kampf has now been banned from all future LIGBT Events, one day after winning the tournament.

    Sanders was unavailable for comment.
